GAO Issues Report on Medicaid and CHIP Disenrollment

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on the disenrollment of people in the Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) after eligibility redeterminations were begun following the pause allowed during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  GAO found that 27 million people (about one-third) were disenrolled after redeterminations resumed and that disenrollment levels varied by state.  New York disenrolled 25.5% of people across both Medicaid and CHIP, for a total of 1,621,820 disenrolled people.  To read the GAO report on Medicaid and CHIP disenrollment, use the first link below.  To read GAO highlights of the report on Medicaid and CHIP disenrollment, use the second link below.
