New York State Dental Association Names Josh Poupore Executive Director

Oct 30, 2026

Former NYSDA executive returns to lead the organization beginning January 1, 2027

The New York State Dental Association has named Josh Poupore its next executive director, effective January 1, 2027. Poupore succeeds Michael Herrmann, whose retirement takes effect at the end of 2026.

Poupore brings more than two decades of experience in strategic communications, public affairs and association leadership, including previous service as NYSDA’s assistant executive director and director of marketing and communications. He currently serves as managing director of Corning Place Communications, an Albany-based strategic communications and public affairs firm, where he leads campaigns for clients in health care, professional associations, organized labor and higher education.

Poupore’s appointment marks a return to NYSDA, where he served from 2011 to 2015. During that time, he led the association’s marketing, communications and media relations efforts and expanded its digital presence. He also developed initiatives to support membership recruitment and retention, including an award-winning campaign focused on new dentists and the introduction of a membership concierge position.

“Josh brings the experience and vision NYSDA needs as we continue to advocate for New York’s dentists and the patients they serve,” said Dr. Amarilis Jacobo, president of NYSDA. “Working alongside our Officers and Board of Trustees, I am confident he will help us strengthen our advocacy, support the next generation of dentists and expand access to oral health care across the state. We are deeply grateful to Mike Herrmann for his leadership and more than three decades of service to our members, and we wish him a well-deserved retirement.”

Poupore’s earlier experience includes communications roles at Capitalize Albany Corporation and Harvard University. At Harvard, his work supported several divisions, including the Office for Sustainability and the Office of Community and Government Affairs.

“Leading the New York State Dental Association is a tremendous privilege, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead,” said Poupore. “I look forward to building on NYSDA’s strong foundation by expanding the programs, services and advocacy our members value most; we’ll grow a stronger, more connected dental community and set the standard for the rest of the nation.”

Poupore holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Elmira College and a Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies with a concentration in journalism from Harvard University. He holds the Accreditation in Public Relations credential and has served in numerous leadership roles within the Public Relations Society of America, including on its National Board of Directors. He is also involved in the Empire State Society of Association Executives and frequently speaks on media relations, public affairs and digital advocacy.

As executive director, Poupore will work with NYSDA’s volunteer leadership, component societies and staff to advance the association’s mission, support its members and represent the dental profession across New York.

NYSDA extends its appreciation to Mr. Herrmann for his leadership and dedication to the association and its members and wishes him well in retirement.

“It has been a privilege to serve NYSDA’s members for more than 30 years and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together on behalf of New York’s dentists and their patients,” said Herrmann. “I know the association is in excellent hands. Josh brings the experience and energy to lead NYSDA into its next chapter, and I look forward to supporting a smooth transition in the months ahead.”
